Welcome! I’m Leigh Essig and am so happy you have stopped by to see my passion for people and photography. I am a portrait photographer because I love people and I have a strong devotion for documenting their lives.
There is so much we miss in the fog of new motherhood, whether it’s your first or your fifth. This baby that you’ve been waiting and planning for has finally arrived! And you’re so sleep deprived that it’s easy to forget all the amazing little things that happen each day.
Contemporary newborn portraiture is what I specialize in, but I also shoot maternity, milestone, and family sessions. Seeing friends, hearing their stories, and documenting where they are in life is such a privilege. My work gives me the chance to meet new people all the time and I enjoy getting to know them and staying in touch after their session. Photography is the art of capturing a moment, creating a memory, and preserving that for someone. That’s what I want to do for you.

How did I get started in newborn photography? My oldest son was born right around the time when Facebook launched. For the first time, I could see pictures by photographers from all over the world and was introduced to so many different styles of photography. I’d always been interested in photography and at that time I was a wedding photographer but I was immediately drawn to newborn photography. After just having my baby and seeing beautiful newborn photos online, I just loved the way these photographers were capturing the sweet, delicate features of these precious babies in such a modern and classic way.
I’m very grateful to the Lord for giving me the opportunity to do what I love. I want to use my talents to glorify our Creator, to capture the light and life in this world. Our lives are not perfect and photography isn’t about pretending it is. It’s about drawing out the beauty that already exists there. It’s grace over perfection.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.”
Matthew 5:16
My studio is located on St. Andrews Road in Murraywood Centre. You’ll never have to worry about buying props or accessories (I have a wonderful collection), and once you get here I encourage you to sit back and relax while I work with your new baby.

If you have any questions or are interested in a session, you can contact me here. And if you’d like to get a feel for my style, you’re welcome to check out the blog!
